Hi everyone, We've been under the impression that Nalar has been "evil" since the chaos wars when the new gods replaced the blind gods of the beginning. Same goes for Arch-Indar, the goddess of good. However, if I am understanding things correctly, Ishap prevented the balance between them from tipping too far one way or the other. As a result of the chaos wars, Ishap and Arch-Indar are dead (for now). So, the current gods used their power to keep Nalar in check. At least relatively speaking. The question that comes to mind isn't so much is "Nalar the big bad guy?" It's more of one that relates to the dread, the children of the void and the void itself. In one of the books in the Dark war, it's implied the Void itself has awareness. I can't remember if this is in Into a Dark Realm or Wrath of a Mad God. Same goes in Rage of a Demon King that it is implied that the universe itself has awareness on some level and that everything happening in it is a part of its overall education. So, I'm thinking the chaos wars and everything that's happened thus far isn't so much about the gods and goddesses of Midkemia and the universe of Midkemia but a war between the universe and the void and who allied with whom and the consequences. The books we've read so far have been about the consequences and the efforts of the gods and goddesses to restore the health of the universe and put the void back in its place. In my mind, the chaos wars was more than just a changing of the order of the universe. It was a war between good and evil on both a universal level (universe vs void) and the war between the gods and goddesses and the valheru (and their allies). Basically, there was a whole slew of stuff going on at once. 'course, to say it that way is an understatement but you get the overall idea.
