FWIW i've been an avid reader the vast majority of my life and Ray seems to be
one of the best authors when it comes to character development.  i've read
through tons of classics, "pop culture", religious, sci-fi, and most of all
Fantasy novels and there's only one or two that IMO match Ray in that
category.  personally there's only been ONE book i haven't read to it's
conclusion (even in some cases were the book just plain sucked imo) and it just
pains me to even say that.  i believe in finishing what i start (even watching
movies that totally sucked lol) but Steven King's IT is beyond my ability to
finish (although i do like some of his other works) but i digress.

when it comes to modern day fantasy imo no can touch Ray's books.  i thoroughly
enjoy other authors but for my reading preference character development is a
MUST HAVE.  it baffles me how some people can sell some of the stuff they write
but then again maybe i'm just too old to "get it".

i'm getting less patient as i get older so books imo can't lolligag around for
2 books before it gets good in order to enjoy them.  Harry Potter series was
pretty good but the first book was kinda slow for my taste.  (perhaps JK
Rowling was "overdeveloping" the characters and trying to slug it all in at
once?)

i apologize for the long-winded drivel but hey it may just be my pain meds
kicking in lol

Ok ok Matt,  Im 3/4 the way through, really REALLY going slow now but i will
give it ONE more chance in the next book.
Yes, i do like Quick Ben but he doesnt make much of an appearance in this book
:=(.
Keeping up with all the gods and warrens gives me a headache tehehehe.
*muttering to myself*....At least Ray's books were cohesive, easy to read and
follow the different story angles etc.
Erikson flips around too much for me at the moment.

You MUST keepin going.. the series just gets better and better and better and
better and… better!
Memories of Ice is the next one in the series and is one of the best of them
all! PS Nakor type character = Quick Ben just give it some time!

WOW, Thanks so much for all of the reviews you guys..........

I was put onto Stephen Erikson, his 1st book was fab but the Deadhouse Gates im
trying to get through its soooooooo dark.  Too dark for my liking, he needs a
Nakor type Character.  At least Ray always had nice comic relief somewhere in
his books and i dont
think i can carry on with Stephen Erikson.

My brother has also read all of Terry Pratchett but i watched a DVD of it and
didnt really like it.

I will however try this Jim Butcher though :=).

(So much for me studying next year, i think i maybe reading for leisure
instead)
