Why I asked most of the top authors visiting Melbourne don't do book
stores

The publishers/ agents book the Hilton Ect for a 3 course lunch the
author speaks for whatever time and signs a few books

Depending who it is $120 and up much more fun than standing in line
getting a signature in a book store

Andrew

Different market realities. You can't compare publishing in different
countries without weighing a number of things.

Australia has always been a monster market on a per capita basis for me, and
there's little sense in my flying across the Pacific and not stopping in New
Zealand along the way.

I'm not sure what you mean by the "luncheon speaking circuit," unless you
mean paid speaking engagements. This is not the case.

I don't pay a dime for these tours, you do understand? My publisher pays
all expenses. If I were paying my own way, I'd be heading straight to the
Hayman Island Resort and spend a week on the beach.
