Subject: A little head's up and a bit of a brag

Folks, as you are among the most loyal (and crazy) of my readers I thought I'd share a bit of information with you.

As some of you may know, we've had a project, The Atlas of Midkemia, on the back burner for nearly 15 years as HarperCollins and I struggled to find a specific place to put it and make sense of it. Now that the Riftwar Cycle is over, we've come to a logical place to create this project, which has morphed into something we're calling The Chronicles of Pug.

It's a book of illustrations and maps, with commentary by Pug and Magnus, addressing the geography and culture of many places, relating to the situations in the book.

I'm hoping to have all my bit done by next weekend, and here's what I wish to share with you.

Steve Stone, who has done the illustrations for the covers of several of my books in the US has been killing the images. They are at times breath taking and more than once I've said, 'OK, that's now how I imagined that would look; this is better!' The maps are lovely and make me wish I could go play tourist (and I know better).

The unexpected thing for me is I'm having a blast writing the text. I'm going back and reading stuff I wrote decades ago, and if I can sound a little immodest, I find myself going, "Damn, I forgot I wrote that! It's pretty damn good!"

The hardcover will be released in the fall, sometime in September I think, and it will be a very nifty package, with a faux leather feel binding, and lovely art in color and black & white.

Just thought you should know.

Best, R.E.F.
