It’s in Darkness, when Thomas and Pugh start looking for Macros, for help. Pug remembers that he had the hidden place made in his house on Kelewan, but couldn't work out why he had done it. Pug finds the scroll that Macros had written to them. "Pug, by reading this, know I am most likely dead. But if not, I am somewhere beyond the normal boundaries of space and time......". I don't know if that's word for word as I don't have my books at work, but it should be fairly close.
