I think Felix should now build from source using gcc-4.8 on Linux.
You may have to restart the build a couple of times to get through it.
Another trick is:
FLX_MIN_MEM=1000 make build
FLX_MIN_MEM=1000 make bootstrap
make boostrap
where FLX_MIN_MEM is used to set the lower threshhold of memory allocated
required to trigger the GC.
Alternatively there is now a prebuilt binary tarball at
http://felix-lang.org/$/usr/local/lib/felix/tarballs/felix_1.1.9dev_gcc48_Linux_tarball.tar.gz
This was built with gcc-4.8.1.
