Subject: Ziggy's negative FeLV test!

I have great news! Ziggy my rescued cat who was FeLV positive just 3 months
ago and on interferon treatment went to the vet for his monthly checkup. He
had a second FeLV test done (along with my other two cats) and all three
tests came back negative! I have heard about this happening before with
false positives and cats actually in some cases, the test may later turn
negative if the cats immune system eliminates the infection. (from a
reliable source, check google). So I am very pleased to tell everyone that
Ziggy is healthy again. He was on the interferon treatment (about 30$ for 2
months) and loved his medicine. It helped him gain weight too, which I know
is a common problem. I would also like to tell everyone that lives in the
Baltimore area to stop by Falls Road Animal Hospital which has excelent
world famous vets who really care, along with 24 hour emergency care and
even hospice care! They took great care of Ziggy and was the only vet I
have been to that gave me and Ziggy hope. Best of luck to everyone's kitties
they are all in my thoughts and prayers.

They are good tests and false negatives are very rare. However, there is still a significant percentage of false positives. If a cat tests positive, you will definitely want to confirm that with an IFA test.

Hi all I just brought home my second fiv+ beautiful boy and I was wondering if anyone here has heard of the Idexx Snap test,Jen the lady that runs the shelters says that is the best.I asked her to test both guys before I officially adopt. If they have felv I would probably just keep fostering them.I cannot go through financially what I did with my beautiful Maizee again.I want them tested because they were free roaming amongst felv+ cats too.she said because the healthy adult cats it shouldn't spread to them, but she offered to test them for me.Which I will do. I asked her about the Elisa test and she said the other was the gold star of them.Just wanted the opinions here.Thanks.

I'm feeding her the Feline Futures Instincts TC supplement mix with ground
turkey from the health food store and ground turkey organs from Oma's. I have
to partially cook half of it now, and then mix in the raw, because since I
fed her cooked turkey after her fast she does not want totally raw food
anymore.

I do not know how much calcium is in the Feline Futures mix, or how much
psyllium. I have been giving her slippery elm, but maybe I should add some fiber
to the food as well.

Michelle,
That's great news that Lucy isn't constipated. It seems perfectly
reasonable to me that after not having a bowel movement for a few days,
and then with it being hard as well, that there might be some irritation
that would cause the blood. I would watch it closely though, this isn't
the first time she's had blood on her stool. I remember several kitties
on the IBD list having problems with constipation/hard stools after
being switched to the raw diet. I thought it might have been caused by
too much added calcium, but I know you were looking to avoid extra
calcium in Lucy's diet. What are you feeding her?
Nina

I do like slippery elm for these sort of things. Possibly homeopathic Nux
Vomica also. I was also wondering if it was an issue with the intestinal
bacteria, when the diet changed to raw food. I assume they just take time
to adjust.

"BuddyBoy" - Orange & white Maine Coon, approx. 3 y/o, FeLV and FIV positive

This past summer a woman was arrested for assault and evicted from her home -- both by her father. She had many, way too many cats ... about 80 of them. Some were taken by the municipal shelter and euthanized, some taken by local rescue which was difficult in the midst of kitten season, and the others were thrown out on the street. One beautiful orange and white, Maine Coon boy, was picked up to be rehomed but tested positive for FeLV and FIV. This is the sweetest boy. He also tested positive for Bartonella, treated and later treated for his teeth ... removing a molar. While coming out of anethesia his lungs sounded congested so an xray was performed ... besides a little fluid in his lungs ... BuddyBoy has 3 BBs lodged in his body -- one at his leg, one in his back close to his vertebrae and another in his abdominal area close to his liver. This boy has been through so much.

He's been in a vet's office since his diagnosis (approx. 3 months) and really needs someone out there to give him a chance at life. He's really healthy, aside from tartar on a molar that needed to be removed, his blood panel looks great and inspite of all he's been through ... he's still purring. Any hope?
