Cindy,
I would check that the vet ran a full thyroid panel. I had a cat that came up negative for thyroid problems, but then my vet did further tests and found the problem. I think what she ran was a 'free' T3.
I've been having thyroid problems myself and know there are several different tests other than the 'basic' one that can give more info. You might want to check.
I would wait to hear from the biopsy, but if it doesn't show anything I would ask about the thyroid tests.
