I don’t use any pain medications with mine – but they all seem recover right away, if you do use, I strongly recommend not to use injecbales prior to the surgery, but oral pill After the surgery..

Staying crated is better, but, if she's anything like Bones, my last girl cat I had spayed, she wont have ANY of that. Just do your best to keep her calm and not tearing around the house like an idiot, that's all you can do.

 

My vet gives the option of two pain relief choices for all surgery, from spays to dentals, etc:

Butorphanol tablets, one pill every 8 hours orally

or

Duragestic Patch, Fantanyl Transdermal Slow Release, one patch lasts 3 days.

 

I would NOT ever consider a spay without pain medication. I know many vets do it, but IMO, that's animal cruelty. I've BEEN spayed, trust me, it HURTS! (like hell, all the way down into your knees and up into your chest)
