Hi Gloria,

I don't know that my experience will help, but don't give up. My Cats was dx
as felv positive after he was found to be anemic and after I lost another
kitty also anemic and jaundiced. It was then that Junior was tested. The
other cat died before he could be tested.

Junior initially was treated for hemobart w/ Baytril. I know not the drug of
choice his anemia did clear up. His last pvc was 30 which I understand is
good for a cat with Felv . He has had many setbacks A URI, and uveitis(bad
eye infection). A few months ago, I would not have though I would have
Junior around now. Not only is he here he is feeling pretty good.

I tried to read over what you have done for Tomi.

Initially Junior got Immunoregulin IV injections protocol I. He got
Clindamyacin for the URI last fall. He got several eye medications for the
uveitis. The infection did clear up, he now has very little site in his
good(not good) eye. He was Blind in the other eye from an auto accident.
Junior has now lived one year from being hit by a car. He was FeLV neg at
that time and has been an inside cat since then. I do have other cats,
in/out. Most recently due to swollen lymph nodes and just not seeming like
he felt well, he was put on 1 month of Baytril. His lymph nodes have gone
down. He does have glaucoma in one eye and hematomas in both ears from some
kind of inflammation. The vet put him on Metacam just this past week for
pain and inflammation. I have been very careful with this medication per
folks on the group and research of my own. I am guessing he was in pain
because he is like a new cat now. Except for the funny looking ears and the
blindness. He is like his old self. I am so happy.

My Point is don't let this get you down. You may want to join the feline
anemia group on yahoo to learn more about epogen. Although I am sure there
are people on this group who have information about it's use. I say anything
is worth a try. Also I think the Immunoregulin helped with the anemia.

I'm so sorry to hear about Torri, I know how hard it is, as we all
do. Just thought I'd put out my 2c.

For low dose oral interferon, what I've read is that it's unlikely
that the kitty will develop a "tolerance" to it, unlikely that it
will lose effect. One theory (note just a theory) is that the FELV
kitty isn't producing his own interferon, and this is merely a
supplement for what's not there.

However, once they're ill, meaning once the virus has mutated into a
new form of virus, what I've read is that it's not going to reverse
the illness and kill / or cut back on the virus. Kitty will progress
thru the illness unless there's something else (unknown) that can
stop the virus.

I would personally guess the interferon *may* help to maintain
whatever health kitty has - and this is not to be taken lightly. But
not reverse the illness. But... taking him off interferon might
escalate illness. I've had two cats die within a couple of weeks
after stopping daily low-dose oral interferon. Think I was giving .5cc
daily.

I've also read that oral low-dose interferon is an immune system
"modulator", note a booster necessarily. Immunoregulin is an immune
system booster, and I don't know much about it other than it can help
in other situations.

My take, IMHO, Blessings,

Gloria
