<<<How do I ask Dr. Susan a question??
Since people &animals get Vitamin "D" by being in sunlight. What
happens to indoor only cats when they don't get this vitamin? >>>

Cats do not have enough 7-dehydrocholesterol in their skin to synthesis
vitamin D by photosynthesis (from the sun) as people do. This makes sense
when you consider the fur coat cats have (and that people don't). Cats
require preformed vitamin D in their diets. Hunting cats get their vitamin D
by consuming the liver and body fat of their prey. Commercial cat foods are
supplemented with vitamin D. Vitamin D deficiency is extremely rare in the
cat, I think it has only occurred experimentally.
