Sorry about my initial message going out 3 times - must be a problem with Yahoo. Hopefully it doesn't happen with this one. I'm answering many of your questions at once here.
>> By infectious did you mean hemorartenella, Jill? >> >>t Yes, Feline Infectious Anemia (FIA): http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_feline_infectious_anemia.html And, according to my home veterinary guide, FIA often does present with fever. I know FIA is different than anemia but I also read that cats with FeLV get FIA at a higher rate than the rest of the population so I was reading about it as well. Also, Gary did not have a pale nose when she went to the vet with the fever, and I wasn't the one who took her in so I didn't talk to the vet at all but she really didn't have any symptoms of anything other than not eating and sleeping more (plus the brief walking problem but we thought that was weakness from lack of food!) We noticed the pale nose later and then read in the home veterinary guide about FIA symptoms (fever, lethargy, loss of appetite), which is why I brought it up. Our vets have taken the stance of giving a week's dose of antibiotics when Gary presents with any signs of illness/infection and we've supported this because we can't afford to test (bacterial vs. viral) every time she gets sick and since she's being treated daily with anti-viral supplements, we all (us and the vets) would rather be safe than sorry by fighting bacterial infections right away. So far this strategy has worked well. I certainly wouldn't treat myself with antibiotics this often but I also have an immune system. :) My boyfriend is going to call the vet to find out if we can get a PCV test in the next couple days. Also, new question: over the weekend she seemed to be scratching more than normal. I don't see any signs of skin problems (redness or scaliness, etc) and she's not shaking her head. I'm pretty sure it's because she stopped eating much of her regular food (Natural Balance canned) and so we started giving her Pro Plan fish in aspic, which she seems to eat more of. So I think it's a food allergy but I just wanted to throw the question out there in case there's some bizarre itching/anemia/FeLV connection of some kind I don't know about. I learn so much from your past experiences! Jill __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail - Find what you need with new enhanced search. http://info.mail.yahoo.com/mail_250
