About 45 seconds on my laptop for "make clean; make -j3". Just enough to
fetch a cup of coffee, if you run really fast.

However: A large part of that time is in linking and swigging, which are
required anyway for even small (real) changes. So the increment isn't that
large.

Indeed. If you work a lot across branches, it may be worth it.
