I decided to place this in a separate thread so it is easier for more
casual readers of the list to see.

I have generated a Docker build of FEniCS 1.5 from the tarballs.
Otherwise, it is built against the standard Ubuntu LTS packages. You
can run it now using e.g.:

docker run -i -t fenicsproject/stable-src:1.5.0 /bin/bash

Download will be around 1.8GB, so make sure you're on a decent
connection. You can see the Dockerfile here:

Additional Docker-related news:

- Patrick Farrell and I have had recent success running a FEniCS
training day at Cambridge using a fleet of Amazon Web Services
machines hosting a Docker container. Users were up and running with a
full build of dolfin-adjoint on a quad-core machine within minutes of
starting the session.

- I will soon have results showing the MPI scaling performance on a
shared-memory 120 core Xeon machine installed at the University of
Luxembourg HPC facility. If anyone is interested in improving the
OpenMP scalability of DOLFIN then it may be possible to arrange access
to this machine which I believe is still relatively rare.

- Finally, I have some initial work that launches a CoreOS cluster
(http://coreos.com) running off-the-shelf FEniCS docker containers on
any compatible cloud infrastructure e.g. Amazon Web Services.
Currently I am working on tying the fleet together so that they can
communicate via MPI. So soon it will be possible for anyone with an
AWS account to launch their own miniature cluster running FEniCS.

My thanks again to Garth Wells and Lizao Li for their help on various
aspects of this work.

Kind regards,
-----
