PR #25259 opened by Forgejo_Fairy URL: https://code.ffmpeg.org/FFmpeg/FFmpeg/pulls/25259 Patch URL: https://code.ffmpeg.org/FFmpeg/FFmpeg/pulls/25259.patch
The loopback-decoder documentation describes the argument to `-dec` as a single output-stream index, leaving the file index and supported syntax implicit. Document `output_file_index:stream_index`, explain that both indices are zero-based, and clarify that general stream specifiers such as `v:0` are unsupported. This follows the integer-index selection in `dec_create()` and the clarification in #24064. Fixes #24064. Validation: successfully converted the updated manual with `doc/texi2pod.pl` and `pod2text`, inspected the rendered paragraph, checked the wording against the parser, and passed `git diff --check`. This change affects documentation only. >From 89125b5b6a5c0509138e784eabf7059b7bf70b04 Mon Sep 17 00:00:00 2001 From: Michael Niedermayer <[email protected]> Date: Tue, 29 Sep 2026 22:09:17 +0000 Subject: [PATCH] doc/ffmpeg: clarify loopback decoder stream selection Document the output_file_index:stream_index argument to -dec, including zero-based numbering and the lack of general stream specifier support. Its audio counterpart is the @code{amix} filter. While decoders are normally associated with demuxer streams, it is also possible to create "loopback" decoders that decode the output from some encoder and allow it to be fed back to complex filtergraphs. This is done with the @code{-dec} -directive, which takes as a parameter the index of the output stream that should -be decoded. Every such directive creates a new loopback decoder, indexed with +directive, which takes as a parameter @var{output_file_index}:@var{stream_index} +to select the output stream that should be decoded. Both indices are zero-based +integers: the first identifies the output file and the second identifies the +stream within that file. Stream specifiers such as @code{v:0} are not supported. +Every such directive creates a new loopback decoder, indexed with successive integers starting at zero. These indices should then be used to refer to loopback decoders in complex filtergraph link labels, as described in the documentation for @option{-filter_complex}. -- 2.54.0 _______________________________________________ ffmpeg-devel mailing list -- [email protected] To unsubscribe send an email to [email protected]
