mig <[email protected]> added the comment: There are 2 separate products:
Video DownloadHelper: a Firefox extension that is closed source (even if free), packaged as an XPI file (like all mozilla add-ons), not containing any FFMPEG stuff ConvertHelper: a full GPL program designed for Windows Video DownloadHelper can call ConvertHelper if the user decides to install this converter program and do a little bit of configuration (only a few percent of the users do so). DownloadHelper invokes ConvertHelper (or directly FFMPEG if on a non-windows platform) through the standard OS system call to execute a regular binary file. FFMPEG is mentioned at several places in http://www.downloadhelper.net/conversion-manual.php: "it relies on the well-known FFMPEG program to do the conversion task", "FFMPEG is the most powerful video conversion utility", "On Linux and Mac, DownloadHelper accesses directly the FFMPEG version you installed on your system" and the ConvertHelper's README states: """ These are *unofficial* FFmpeg Win32 builds made by DownloadHelper from GPL source code. Followed build procedure is described at http://ffmpeg.arrozcru.org/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page """ Please either let me know what GPL rule is broken there or close this bug. _____________________________________________________ FFmpeg issue tracker <[email protected]> <https://roundup.ffmpeg.org/roundup/ffmpeg/issue1096> _____________________________________________________
