Well, Quicktime player perfectly creates ALAC in .mov files, so I guess
it's obviously supposed to be encapsulated in .mov.

Im afraid alac in .mp4 is definitely NON STANDARD.
You'll have to use -f ipod to be allowed to put ALAC in .m4a.
Im working on a patch.
