This used to be done quite often for stuff where the source was undistributable, but you still wanted to provide a src.rpm with all the other sources (i.e. mainly patches) in a bundle. I think nowadays, lpf provides a somewhat different approach - but perhaps only for Fedora, and pretty buggy IMO.
