That all sounds right -- that's been my experience.  The downside of mp4 is 
that some browsers won't autoplay without user interaction.
But I wonder if what's suggested in your note above -- mp4 without sound will 
autoplay?

I’m not so sure, but I think that no sound MP4 can autoplay. I’ve seen 
situations like these before.
