Which advantages do you see if we make a "strict" definition for places like www data or so? Why not simply making a few good recommendations (which _should_ be taken over by the distros in what they suggest their users), but in the end,... let it open to the admin. Of course I still think that we should give rather clear definition of the hierarchy, such data belongs to (regardless of which we actually choose for this,.. I'd suggest /srv, others perhaps /var,.. others may introduce something completely new for this). So a distro should then e.g. say on installation of Apache. "Where should I place the document root for the main server and for default vhosts? Suggested it [my example] /srv/www/<some name>. If you don't follow this, it's still strongly recommended to use the [my example] /srv hierarchy."
