Years ago I got a kid mohair fleece that has a truly indescribable amount of VM in it. The fleece came from an acquaintance who was a new shephered and had no idea how unacceptable this was. If she's still in the business, I'm sure she knows better now. The fleece came from the runt of the flock who somehow got feed poured on her at the feeding bin.
Anyway, I never tossed it - it is, after all, kid mohair, and lovely. I'm not the most fastidious spinner, and even combing still leaves too much VM for for me. I have thought about a wild experiment, to try composting a bit of it - the VM would disintegrate quicker than the protein fibers, though the color or quality of the fiber could be affected. Is that ridiculous? So - I was wondering if anyone has any fixes for extreme amounts of VM. Since it is completely unuseable as it is, I can afford risky experiments.
