"Good fun, but I do still have blue fingernails." Very dangerous to expose yourself to any dye!! I have heard of more than one person with a casual attitude toward exposure to dye chemicals that died from cancer. Even natural dyes are chemicals that bind to cells (or they would not work). Some dyes are approved for use in food- was it red #3 that turned out to be harmful, can't remember, but some folks avoid even food additive dyes (ex. Kool-Aide)... if you are using approved for food dyes, maybe they are safe to handle, but your work will be only tempory as they are not very fast to washing or light.
