Plimouth Plantation is set around 1630.

In the mid 1700's the US was starting to become keen on independence.
Women were encouraged to spin. Scholars at Harvard were proud of
wearing "homepsun" clothes. There were spinning bees to encourage speed
and quality. Penalties for poor skirting of fleeces. So wool spinning
was around at that time. I'm not sure if they were flyer wheels or
spindle wheels though.
