I do think that the fish braid crossed under rather than over as a typical french braid does, and it does give a tighter, slimmer look to the braid itself (how do I know this?? A typical braid in my hair is like a heavy rope, fish braid more like a normal sized braid, lol). It also seems that the braid ended up looking like a series of chevrons rather than the obvious twist and wrap of a typical braid. It is something that I could see being used on say Scandinavian fiber works.
The braid on the mitten cuffs looks very similar, but it was too small for me to see for sure. My eyes have been giving me a lot of trouble lately.
