Dear Von, That is why we order directly from foreign jobbers. We not only get it at list price, we also get a 10 percent discount and the shipment is delivered directly to the library. Not all libraries can do this though because you either need to have greenbucks or you use a credit card. We have both at the Rizal Library.
This is also why I seldom but from local dealers unless we buy from book fairs or it is a rush buy or books on approval plan. We also want to support our local book dealers for as long as the price is right. Our acquisitions policy also prevents us from accepting offers to go to Singapore for book buying. We have a very complicated fund allocation formula and approval procedure that involves the faculty, librarians and students. Hope this is useful information. Lourdes T.
