Ma'am David, Yes ma'am we are considered as academic non-teaching with the same ranking as teachers but im afraid not with the same salary scale. But just last month, one of the administrator called me and told me that it has been decided by the Executive Committee that we,librarians, will not be ranked anymore for the reason that is not totally clear to me. What she said is that teachers have the same nature of job which is teaching while we, librarians and library staff have different job description which is true. But Ma'am is it a valid ground or reason enough for them to decide that we should not be ranked anymore?Just because the nature of our job is different as that of the faculty? It's not clear to us now what is really our status. I am licensed librarian and had taken 27 units of MA degree already and hope to graduate on 2011. The administator also said that I need to finish my MA first to be fully ranked as that of teachers. Is it really the way it should be or it varies from institution to institution? Again Ma'am is there any law governing our status as academic-non teaching?Because our HR manager informed us that it is the PRC who decides which profession are to be considered academic non-teaching and librarian is one of them. Again Ma'am any help you can extend to me will be appreciated. Thank you po.

Most of us have academic non-teaching rank so that we do not need to teach. Once you are ranked as a faculty your qualifications and job requirement for promotion will be the same as that of the faculty. I personally opt for academic non-teaching with the same salary scale and ranking as faculty but with no teaching load. Unless of course your institution is offering library science or education or you are in a high school or grade school and you have civil service eligibility as a teacher on top of you library science qualifications and license.
