VLIR-UOS awards scholarships to students from developing countries so that they can follow a training programme in Belgium. These scholarships cover all related expenses. Every year, VLIR-UOS awards up to 70 scholarships to training participants. In short training programmes, lasting one to four months, the focus is on transferring skills rather than knowledge, thus creating opportunities for cooperation and networking. Emphasis is given to free open-source software and affordable electronic information resources and locally produced digital libraries.
