Vacancy: Library Assistant
Partnerships in Environmental Management for the Seas of East Asia (PEMSEA),
a regional programme of the United Nations Development Programme, United
Nations Office for Project Services and the Global Environment Facility, has a
need for a library assistant.

Post Title: Library Assistant
Entry Level: Individual Contractual Agreement (ICA)
Duration: One Year
Under the general guidance of the Chief Technical Officer and the direct
supervision of the Communications Associate, the Library Assistant shall
undertake the following responsibilities and duties:
General Functions:
1. Subscribe to periodicals and purchase books and other reference
materials;
2. Classify, catalog and index library materials (books,
periodicals,
CD-ROMs, etc.);
3. Maintain and update the library databases (Microsoft Access,
SILMS);
4. Provide current awareness services (posting of new documents
through the
network, replenishing display area with current titles, regular update on
use
of the library);
5. Establish system of loaning, monitoring borrowed materials, and
recalling
of overdue books;
6. Assists programme staff needing literature search;
7. Provide relevant information to update PEMSEA website, Tropical
Coasts
and other PEMSEA publications;
8. Implement records management principles (Programme Outputs);
9. Liaise/be prepared to visit and collaborate with other libraries;
10. Help in the physical upkeep of the library;
11. Maintain a list of PEMSEA publications disseminated through the
library,
and assist in the annual inventory of the publications in stock.
Qualification Requirements
Knowledge and skills: Degree in Library Science
Experience: Two years working experience supplemented by training on relevant
library databases/software.
Languages: Fluency in English
