Subject: [DISASTR-OUTREACH-LIB ] People Locator (TM) activated for flooding in
Manila, Philippines; correction on refinery fire URL

In response to massive flooding in Manila and surrounding areas, NLM has
launched the web site, “People Locator for the 2012 Philippine Floods”
at https://pl.nlm.nih.gov/philippinefloods/search.

The Lister Hill Center, an R&D division of the National Library of Medicine,
has developed People LocatorTM, a web site to which photos and name, age, etc.
for missing (or found) people can be posted by hospital staff, relief workers,
or family
members. It can be searched by the public and by relief workers who are
assisting with family reunification efforts.

The People Locator web site is designed to receive information through the
Web, an iPhone/iPodTouch/iPad app, and from other sites such as Google
Person Finder. The app is ReUniteTM which is available at no cost from
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/reunite/id368052994?mt=8. Missing persons’
photos and identifying information can be added through any of these channels.

Google Crisis Response has also activated Google Person Finder for the floods
in the Philippines, in English and Filipino at:
https://www.google.org/personfinder/2012-08-philippines-flood. The
English-language Google home page is http://www.google.com.ph/.

NLM PeopleLocator and the Google Person Finder share information so that
missing persons are then listed in both places.

For information on US government response, see:
USAID home page for Philippines, http://philippines.usaid.gov/
US Embassy in Manila, http://manila.usembassy.gov/. The embassy is closed for
at least Aug 7-8.
