FHL presents The Printed Word: The Lost Art of Gabino Reyes
Congson

Ever wonder what life was like in the 1930s?
How did young men go a-courting? When was "Mango Time"? Could money
really turn into stone?

You are cordially invited to THE PRINTED
WORD: THE LOST ART OF GABINO REYES CONGSON, September 6, Saturday, 10:30 AM at
the 2F Function Room of Ayala Museum. The event will launch an
exhibit of Mr Congson’s unique illustrations, and will feature a talk by
writer, scholar, and museum advocate, Felice Prudente Sta. Maria.

A product of international correspondence schools such
as the US-based Landon School of Illustrating and Cartooning and Federal
Schools, Inc., Gabino Reyes Congson (1910-2006) illustrated popular
covers for the iconic Philippine Magazine from 1936 to 1941. According
to AVH Hartendorp, publisher and editor of Philippine Magazine, "Mr
Congson’s drawings of Manila street characters are noted for their keen
observation and humor, and those who understand anything of art will admire the
economy and efficiency of the means he employs in transferring what he sees and
thinks to his sketch pad."

The
exhibit will run until December 2014. Regular admission to the lecture is Php
300. A discounted rate of Php 150 is given to students, teachers, and senior
citizens.
