I don't know the Minolta SW personally, but this is normal and correct  
behaviour for TWAIN progs, you only usually run them inside a client 
application. Some mfrs' provide a front-end which allows the TWAIN app to 
function standalone as well. Personally I prefer standalone, but since you 
have VS you seem to have all bases covered.
