I believe, and I could be wrong, that companies are required to provide
sufficient documentation for a  product such that one can maintain it ones
self, of course with sufficient technical skills.

I have had no problems getting very excellent technical documentation from
Epson, Contax, Pentax and Pioneer to name a few.  At prices that were far
far lower than I expected for such quality of documentation!

One trick is to ask for a parts list...that usually contains the part number
for the service manual, if the parts list isn't already part of the service
manual.
