The patterns result from minor inequalities in the sensitivity of the CCD cells used for each scan line. The Nikon 8000ED uses a three-line scanning assembly that has a tendency to cause banding such as you saw, but if it becomes too much of a problem in a scan, you can tell the scanner to use just one line for the scan, and the banding disappears (but the scan takes three times as long, which is why the single-line scan is not used as often). I've detected banding in my 8000ED scans in very dark areas next to very bright areas, but it is very slight, and in most cases it is so hard to see that I don't bother with a "superfine" rescan of the image. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Unsubscribe by mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED], with 'unsubscribe filmscanners' or 'unsubscribe filmscanners_digest' (as appropriate) in the message title or body
