I don't know more. I had one of the beasts, but it's long gone. Could guess one row of CCDs, 2400 wide, with three color filters. As I recall, media moved through the scanner; could be that it stepped each increment for three scan lines. I'll upload this ancient faq (pdf file) to www.shomler.com/hp5100/ on the chance you and others might find it of interest. Original site from where I obtained it is 404.
