Hello Andrew, 1 Others may know better, but AFAIK slurs are the only smart shapes that can be "attached to notes". (Glissandi can be attached to noteheads). If you click on the slur icons the "Attach to Notes" option in the menu is available, but with any other shape it is greyed out. If you definitely want a trill sign attached to a note you could use the articulation "tr", but this does not have a wavy line. Also you could try creating a note-attached text expression using Alt+0217 (sorry - I only know about Windows) followed by 3 or 4 lowercase letter m 's in Maestro font. This would not be stretchable, however. I don't really see why you definitely need a note-attached smart shape, though. I don't have any problems using measure-attached shapes, apart from sometimes having to adjust the length after updating layout. 2 I think this midi problem is linked to your keyboard - it sounds as though you have the keyboard set to a patch which is "solo" - i.e. it can only play one note at a time, which is a function of certain patches. I would suggest you test this by turning off "Send Patches before Play" in the Instrument List window in Finale, switching the keyboard off and on again to reset it, then setting the keyboard manually to an "unsolo" instrument, say a piano. If you then hear all the notes on playback you know it is your keyboard setting. You may be choosing this incorrect patch manually, or it may be being sent by Finale. You don't say whether or not you have a GM-standard keyboard. If it is not, then you have to tell Finale to send the correct patch number for the instrument you want to hear (which will undoubtedly be different from the standard patch numbers in the GM list). And don't forget that some synths start patch numbering from zero, not from 1. You may have to adjust the patch numbers in Finale because of this. Check your keyboard manual on this point. As Coda would say, if there are questions remaining on this let me know. (I'm not sure I can solve it though!)
