Isn't that the truth? In Jan's summary, I found one item that would be very useful to me -- the ability to specify the exact number of systems to put on each page. I know that I'm not the most knowledgeable Finale user out there, but the number of hours I've wasted to try to get my pages laid out is unreal. I eventually figured out how to manipulate the staff margins to accomplish this, albeit indirectly. The ability to set this directly is a good thing, IMHO. If Finale were a $25 shareware product targeted mainly at kids or unsophisticated users, then I could see putting the emphasis on the cool colors on the toolbar icons. But Coda's marketing focus on this eye candy makes you wonder if any of the people in that department even understand what Finale users do with the product. It is all about keystrokes, productivity, and quality of the finished product. Everything else is way secondary as far as I'm concerned. Having said all that, there isn't any bad news here. Finale is alive and well. There is some useful capability being added. They continue to move the state of the art forward. It is all good.
