I have 4 staves set up for piano-like sounds, but I now want to see

I didn't wan't the instruments to transpose. For example if I change
a staff to trumpet, it will become a transposing instrument when I
use that approach. Nevertheless, I would like it to SOUND like a
trumpet, trombone, etc. when I play it back. So in other words, I
want to change the playback voices without changing the staff
attributes.

A perusal through their write-ups so far has not yielded anything
obvious I can do. Any suggestions on this?

By "general MIDI" do you mean an outboard GM device or the internal
sounds that live in your computer? It makes a difference.

In any case, open the instrument list window and change those
piano-like voices to trumpets or whatever. Remember that you have
to also change the MIDI channel as well, or all the staves will
change to trumpet sound. Soundwise it won't transpose if you are
just using general MIDI internal voices. If you are using a MIDI
setup and running the sounds out to some synth or sampler device,
then the "voice" on that device may actually be a transposing
instrument, and the implications for what note will actually play may
vary. If you are just listening to internal sounds, however, and
your staff attributes remain un-transposed, changing instruments
won't change the notation. Is that too confusing?
