It might, or might not be a good way to start out; it depends upon exactly what you
want to do, whether Notepad is the best choice for you, or not.

My hunch is, if you are a serious musician (in whatever sense you wish to use the
word, you are quickly going to come up against the limitations imposed by Notepad,
and I suspect my suggestion to most people would be to start with Printmusic or
Allegro, or at least plan to migrate there quickly.
