My guess is that you had beam/beat set on the grace note, and in the course of changing the other notes you accidentally cleared the grace note as well, which is what you needed to do. You may tried the slash on the grace note already, but if you did it when beam/beat was set on the following note as well, it would have showed no effect. There are a variety of ways that the beam/beat flag can get set other than typing the slash.
