Hello all,
I am looking at moving to New York in the upcoming months and I was
hoping to draw on all your collective knowledge and experience -- what
engraving and copying opportunities exist in NYC, and what would be the
best way for someone like myself to get in on the ground floor? I
mean, obviously, Broadway musicals and film score composers need
copyists, for example, but -- well, forgive my naiveté, but how does
one go about breaking into that business? What about publishers? Carl
Fischer and G. Schirmer, of course -- anyone know if those companies
are using Finale? Are there other publishers I should be submitting my
CV to? Also, is there anything like a directory of freelance copyists
that I would be able to get my name on? (Perhaps the Musician's Union
has something... ?) I am used to building up a client base largely
through word of mouth, but that alone isn't going to pay the bills in
New York, at least not in the early going.
As always, your advice is greatly appreciated.
