Richard Wernick likes indicating a 5-beat note by putting a rhythmic dot *before and after* a whole note, and so on for smaller values, and that's fine as a personal kind of exception and an example of the kind of elements
Not personal. He got it from Crumb, who I believe also did not originate it.
