Are you sure you're not trying to put it into a FireWire (IEEE 1394) port?They look remarkably similar to USB ports except are slightly different in shape.<<

I just checked. The icon for the USB port is like Neptune's trident. The icon for firewire is like a vibrating cymbal. I assume that these are universal.
