Listers...I sent this to Allen direct, but I'll repaet it for the list. It
isn't the exact same printer, but the info may be helpful.

Allen...
I bought the "little brother" of the printer described in your mail, the Ricoh
2100, also from Tiger, +/- a year ago for $299. It's also 11x17-capable with
PCL 5, PCL 6, and PS. It does almost all of my Finale work, which is a lot.
The printer works OK as long as you remember to define paper size in advance.
The printer itself is flimsy in construction. If you want to duplex, the
duplex unit is pricey. I have not had great success with the "wait a couple
hours until the pages cool off and the static goes away, then flip 'em over"
duplexing substitute. The toner cartridges are also pricey, and the "cheap
refill" places do not seem to be able to deal with them, so I've had to buy the
carts direct from Tiger--my guess is that they sold my printer as a loss leader
and will recoup their loss when I buy 2 more carts ;-).
I also had an extra memory stick lying around from an old laptop, and I popped
it in the Ricoh, and that improverd matters, especially on PS jobs--again, a
lot of my Finale work.
My printer appears to use some of the processor's time, like a Winmodem does--
on a P-III 550, apps slow up & the mouse tracks more slowly when the printer is
working. Yours may differ since it is more advanced, but it's a concern if you
want to use apps while printing--you probably have more than a P-III 550,
though!
Finally, my 2100 generates more heat than an old tube ham radio transmitter I
use from
time to time--it's about the hottest laser printer I've ever used.
It's not clear from the description what yours has/does that mine
hasn't/doesn't, but I'll assume it's somewhat more advanced.
Interestingly, at least my 2100 was not promoted in the USA, but was more
heavily promoted in Europe. Yours might be the same--dunno.
Hope this gives you something to work with, even if mine isn't *eaxctly* the
one you want!

PS-I don't think there is an XP driver for PS for the 2100. Not sure abt that,
however.

Regards...Jim
