Whence cometh the word 'singlet' as in undervest?


Still waiting for my Mac version of 2004, so no hairpin advice, however, "singlet" gives me a nice opportunity to use my Oxford Dictionary software. Cheers, Lon Sherer

1. An unlined woollen garment (knitted or woven), now usually close-fitting and worn as an undershirt or jersey. Also attrib.
