Parts of the piece are with standard key signatures, and parts are in free non-tonality. Now I want to switch over to showing the tenor sax in the correct transposition and still have accurate pitches on midi playback.
That would be easy if it were all in key signatures, but the non-tonal sections should have no signature in the saxophone rather than looking like D Major. I can't figure out how to transpose some sections with signature and some sections without, and still have the midi come out right. Daniel - Can't you simply hide the D Major key sig using the box in the Staff Attributes DB and use the * key in Simple Entry to display the # accidentals on all the C's & F's that would normally be hidden?. All the other non-scale notes will have accidentals anyway, and playback will be unaffected. If that doesn't work, you can always use an expression to transpose the playback without affecting the position of the notes. Create the expression, click on playback options and in the drop down list choose Transposition. I think you'll need a value of -1 but I haven't checked that. HTH Peter r the sax player will want the music transposed, even if there's no key signature - he will play a written C and it will sound Bb.
