I'm not sure who actually receives these high commission amounts in the U.S. It may go hand-in-hand with fame. My largest US commission was $2,500 for a 25-minute orchestral work. There have been several for performance only, but I tend to receive $250-$1000 for chamber works from US groups, plus a recording with full rights and all the ASCAP royalties I can muster.
