Thanks David - I guess Finale sees the triplet instruction already in force and I was doubling the instruction. But I can't get this to work on the last beat of a bar. What's the trick for that? The Finale manual really needs to make this clearer - I've been working with the documentation and not finding these tips.
Likewise I've got Document Options | Triplets set to have the tuplets always on the beam side, but they still always come out above the note regardless of register, and when I drag the number & bracket downward, the bracket doesn't change directon unless I right-click and tell it manually. That seems like a double-whammy.
I think you're right, it seems that there are some kind of a bug in Simple Entry on the last beat in each measure, when you enter triplets. At least in Finale 2003a. Maybe it is fixed in 2004.
So far as I understand, is Beam side, always on the beamside (and then will the hook change direction) and Manual means it will always be placed above the lines. If you want to have them under the lines, I guess you have to change the tuplets default definition to -36 or so (inclusive change the length of the hook from -12 to 12), it is a bit of a challenge to have them placed automatic, Robert Pattersons plugin too, but a help so you can always align them.
