Having tried it both ways, I would tend now to opt for the local variant, that is, for ordering Finale/Updates from the local distributor. It's sometimes slightly pricier — although with the Euro the playing field seems to have leveled off a good deal — but then again there are always advantages in having someone in the "neighborhood" to help if you need it. And It's good for the local economy, which, on this side of the pond, needs all the help it can get!

A question for the Europeans: do you order your upgrades directly from MakeMusic, or do you go through the local distributor? I was advised to contact the French distributor, whose retail price for the "large" update is about 60 euros higher than the direct price. I'm tempted to order directly from Makemusic, but, besides the rather high shipping rate (39 dollars), I'm wondering if there will be any other charges, after reading: "Orders shipping to recipients outside of the United States may incur additional costs as a result of taxes, customs fees, import duties, brokerage fees, etc. (to be collected by the shipping carrier at the time of delivery)". Any advice?
Thanks,
