I don't know if this is a new feature in 10.3 or not, but I just discovered that Preview (Apple's OS X all-purpose graphics reader) can read PS files and convert them to PDFs. Seems to do a pretty good job, too, at least on cursory examination -- the PDFs created with Preview look just as good and print just as well as those created by Distiller. I don't know if it has any of the customizable settings you would get with Distiller -- almost certainly not -- but it *is* free (for Panther users, at least), and so far it's working great.
(Of course, once Fin2004 is released we will be able to print to PDF directly from Finale, but this is a useful interim measure.)
