There was some discussion earlier about Panther's feature that lets the user do his own key bindings for menu commands.
Couple that with a selection of shareware apps that can launch scripts from a keyboard command, and things get a little better. I just saw a new simple-but-elegant shareware program advertised for US$15, called AliasKeys. It can be found at http://www.widemann.net/aliaskeys/index.html. It is appears to be able to assign a key combination to an icon for launching things (including scripts of course), is "fully unicode-aware and can be used with any international keyboard and localized system version."
